ISM Services Index Shows Sector Blowout

The July 2015 ISM Non-manufacturing report shows a services sector growth blowout.  The overall index increased by +4.3 percentage points, to 50.3%, a record high.  The NMI is also referred to as the services index.  New orders increased by 3.4 percentage points.  Employment also had a blowout with a 6.9 percentage point increase.

ISM NMI 53.0% Shows Service Sector Slides As New Orders Plunge

The December 2013 ISM Non-manufacturing report shows the overall index decreased by -0.9 percentage points, to 53.0%.  The NMI is also referred to as the services index and the decrease indicates slower growth for the service sector.  New orders just plunged, by -7.0 percentage points, and went into contraction.  So did inventories as well as order backlogs stayed in contraction.

ISM Services Index Slows - NMI 54.4% for September 2013

The September 2013 ISM Non-manufacturing report shows the overall index decreased by -4.2 percentage points, to 54.4%.  The NMI is also referred to as the services index and the decrease indicates slower growth for the service sector.  The business activity index dropped by -7.1 percentage points to 55.1%.  Both indexes are still above June 2013 levels.

 

ISM Services Index - NMI 56.0% for July 2013

The July 2013 ISM Non-manufacturing report shows the overall index increased, 3.8 percentage points, to 56.0%.  The NMI is also referred to as the services index and the increase indicates faster growth for the service sector.  The business activity index soared by 8.7 percentage points to 60.4%, a high not seen since December 2012.

 

ISM Services Index - NMI 55.2% for January 2013

The January 2013 ISM Non-manufacturing report shows the overall index decreased, -0.5 percentage points, to 55.2%. The NMI is also referred to as the services index and the decline indicates slower growth for the service sector.    The index also shows more inventory contraction. For those believing the Q4 GDP  inventory shed was just temporary should read on.
